United Church of Christ: History of Firsts

We are proud to be a part of the United Church of Christ, which has a long and amazing history - including being one of the first American organizations to take a stand against slavery (1700), having the first woman ordained as a Christian minister (1853) and  the ordination of the first openly gay Christian minister (1972).

Fairfax Community Church History

On December 9, 1919, a small group of Christian women were invited to the home of Mrs. Paulson (see picture below) to talk about how a Protestant Christian church might be started in Fairfax. At the end of two years, this determined group of tireless women had earned enough to buy two lots on Park road. To make the project more attractive to generous donors, it was decided to construct a combination church, community center and Masonic Hall. It eventually also housed the first Fairfax Town Hall. More to come!
